Severance Pay

My boss told me my position is elimated, however, I found it open on the website when conducting job search. Does the company have any legal libility for that? Can I get negotiate my severance pay with them? Is there any guildline that I can base on?

Reason for term.

1) The fact that your position is posted suggests that there is an unstated reason for your termination. If that unstated reason is something illegal (e.g., discrimination), the termination is illegal.
2) Severance pay is an obligation imposed by a company upon itself. Your sole entitlement to severance is company policy or practice.
